Apuje Kalu is someone that I have personally known for about ten years. When I met him, he was one year removed from walking across the stage at Florida Agricultural & Mechanical University (FAMU), where he received his Bachelor of Science in Industrial & Manufacturing Engineering. Though he was gainfully employed as a Supply Chain Management Consultant, I think it was very clear that his love for style, fashion and artistry called for him to flourish elsewhere.
After parting ways with his full-time job, Apuje began to flex his muscles in the world of styling. He would often lend his talents to local fashion shows and various photoshoots in the Washington, DC Metropolitan area. While living in DC, he would often travel to and from Miami, where he worked with some of his colleagues who were established photographers.
Fast-forward a few years down the road, and you'll find that Mr. Kalu, now a resident of Los Angeles, is a stylist to the stars. He has worked with Ne-Yo, Sanaa Lathan, and LeToya Luckett just to name a few.
When searching the hashtag #styledbyapuje on social media networks, you'll see that his work spans from celebrity entertainment styling to editorial and runway work.
These last few years have quite eventful for Apuje as he has been growing his portfolio of work and spiraling into success. I personally feel an extreme sense of pride when I'm watching a red carpet special and am live-tweeting only to notice my timeline is full of compliments about an ensemble I know Apuje crafted. He is a rising star, and there is no doubt that small blogs like this are just the beginning of the #EraOfApuje. Stay tuned!
