Palm Springs for Memorial Day Weekend

As much as I’ve traveled both internationally and domestically, and as much as I’ve been to California, I had never been to Palm Springs. My best friend and I decided to change that in May 2021. Because our friends purchased a vacation home there, and were staying there for a few months to get it set up, it was the perfect time for us to visit and be shown around the popular vacation destination by folks who frequented.

When we touched down in Palm Springs, my bags were barely in my room before I was in the pool with a cold one in my hand. This was my type of party!

What are my thoughts on the city? I think it’s an amazing place to visit when you want to get a lot of sun, pool time and relaxation. That’s exactly what we did! While I did have to work until around noon on one of the days, it felt good to sleep in, only to wake up and have a cup of coffee before jumping into the pool with friends.

We also had some great food! Two culinary favorites of mine were Las Casuelas Terraza and Jake’s. Please note that you are doing yourself a disservice if you go to Jake’s and don’t get a slice of cake…if you are too full, get a slice to go!

So, with a week full of lounging, cocktails, great food, and pool parties, I’d have to say my favorite part of the trip was our accommodations. Our friends’ vacation home, the Orquídea del Sol, is perfect! And it’s now available for rent! It’s less than a ten minute drive from the airport and only a few traffic lights away from downtown Palm Springs, where most of the bars, stores and restaurants you should try are located! The home can fit up to six people (3 bedrooms), it has mountain views and a heated pool with integrated spa! Small detail: I was stoked that the bedrooms had Casper mattresses, since that’s what I have in my own home!! So grateful to have been one of the first guests to stay there!

If you can’t tell by what you’ve read here, Palm Springs is definitely a place I’d love to return to every once in a while to vacation and relax! The only downside I see about the city is that there is not a lot of diversity. Specifically, I didn’t see a lot of Black people. This is something that is important to me, and consequently the very thing that struck me everywhere I went, namely when it came to bars nightlife. So living in Palm Springs – not something I’d consider, but getting away for a while, soaking up endless sun, and dipping my ass in the pool everyday? Count me in!

What else should I try or see next time I’m in Palm Springs?
